Dr. Yoshimitsu Kobayashi

Representative Director, Member of the Board, President

Yoshimitsu Kobayashi is President & Chief Executive Officer of Mitsubishi Chemical Holdings Corporation and Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation. Dr. Kobayashi received an M.S. in interdisciplinary science from the University of Tokyo in 1971, studied as a government-sponsored foreign student in radiation physics at Hebrew University of Jerusalem in Israel in 1972 and in radiation physics at the Scuola Normale Superiore in Pisa, Italy in 1973, and received a Ph.D. in radiation physics from the University of Tokyo in 1975. He joined Mitsubishi Chemical Industries Limited (current Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation) in 1974 and was assigned to Central Research Laboratory to develop catalysts. Dr. Kobayashi later specialized in research on optical storage media, and was named President of Mitsubishi Kagaku Media Co., Ltd. and General Manager of Information Storage Products Department in 1996. After holding positions such as Chief Technology Officer, Managing Executive Officer of Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation, and President and Chief Executive Officer of Mitsubishi Chemical Group Science and Technology Research Center, Inc., he assumed the current positions in April 2007.

Dr. Glenn H. Fredrickson

Member of the Board, Executive Director

Glenn H. Fredrickson is Director of the Mitsubishi Chemical Center for Advanced Materials and Professor of Chemical Engineering and Materials at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he has served on the faculty since 1990. He is a leading authority on theoretical polymer physics and has been recognized by major research prizes from the American Chemical and Physical Societies, the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, and by election to the U.S. National Academy of Engineering. Dr. Fredrickson's research, which includes more than 200 journal publications and over 10 patents, has most recently led to field-based computer simulation tools that enable the design of advanced functional polymer materials. Dr. Fredrickson has consulted for more than a dozen companies in the chemicals, materials, and medical device fields, and has chaired technical advisory boards at Dow Chemical, Mitsubishi Chemical, and Allergan Medical. He currently serves on the Scientific Advisory Boards of Segetis and Novomer, two green chemistry venture firms.

Eiji Tanaka

Member of the Board, Deputy Director

Eiji Tanaka received an M.S. in industrial chemistry from the University of Tokyo in 1974. Mr. Tanaka joined Mitsubishi Chemical Industries Limited (current Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation) and was assigned to the Yokohama Research Center to develop olefin polymerization catalysts. He was named General Manager of the Chemical Laboratory in 1999 and Executive Officer of Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation and General Manager of the MCC-Group Science & Technology Office in 2004. He became Executive Officer of Mitsubishi Chemical Holdings Corporation in 2007, and supervised R&D and intellectual property.
